Educator
While at the University of Michigan, Dave was able to study with esteemed music educators including Robert Culver, Colleen Conway, Betty Anne Younker, Marie McCarthy and Kate Fitzpatrick. While there, he did field work at various surrounding school districts including Saline, Chelsea, Airport and Bellville. In addition, Dave student-taught at the 4 time Grammy winning Huron High School.
Dave has worked with various high school drum lines, including Huron, Dexter and Mt. Lebanon, in addition to working with Novi High School’s indoor drum line. In 2008, he helped create and participate in a recruitment demo to start a string program in the Oxford, MI school district. Dave was the percussion manager of the Michigan Youth Ensemble Band and Orchestra from 2006 – 2010. In addition, he worked with Joseph Gramley as the assistant percussion teacher for the MPulse music institute in the summers of 2009 and 2010. From 2010-2011 Dave taught band and general music at the Huron Valley Catholic School in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Private Lessons
In addition to teaching band and orchestra, Dave also offers private lessons in percussion. He has taught percussion lessons for the Dexter, MI public schools, as well as other students from surrounding areas, including Troy, Novi, and Detroit.
Dave offers lessons in various areas of percussion, including snare drum, marimba, vibraphone, timpani, drum set, multi-percussion and world percussion. He is very open to letting students choose the focus for their lessons, while guiding them to open their minds and explore other areas of percussion.
